About

Aseel has over 10 years of experience as a lawyer in the Maldives. Aseel’s practice includes advising clients in crafting alternative dispute resolution (ADR) based settlements to commercial disputes. He has represented clients in international arbitration proceedings including at the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). 

Aseel has completed professional programs on dispute resolution, including at the New York University (NYU) School of Law, and attended classes on Climate Change Policy & Law at the University of Columbia. He is also a Climate Change Fellow of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS). 

Prior to joining the firm, Aseel served as the Legal Counsel to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives and has extensive experience in advising missions, embassies and international organizations in matters pertaining to domestic and international law.

Aseel was also the youngest Member elected to the first Executive Committee of the Maldives Bar Council, established under the Legal Profession Act in 2019. 

Aseel holds a LL.B. from Oxford Brookes University, United Kingdom, and a LL.M. in International and Commercial Dispute Resolution Law, with a focus on Arbitration, from the University of Westminster, United Kingdom. 

Recent Experience:

  • Assisting an overseas investment fund in acquiring multiple islands for tourism development.
  • Advising an overseas client in structuring foreign investments in the tourism & hospitality sector.
  • Assisting a client in the tourism & hospitality sector in respect of a construction loan from a multinational hotel chain.
  • Acting for an overseas state-owned national airline in securing its commercial interests in Maldives.
