With more than a decade of experience as a corporate and commercial lawyer, Ayyad’s practice is primarily focused on banking and finance, corporate and commercial, foreign direct investments, infrastructure, hotel acquisitions and hospitality practice.

Ayyad’s notable experiences include:

Banking & Finance

  • Advised The Mauritius Commercial Bank Ltd in acting as the Bank’s Receiver in the potential foreclosure of 5* luxury resort in the Maldives.
  • Assisted in carrying out critical and time-sensitive assignment for Maldives Islamic Bank Ltd (MIB) encompassing a comprehensive External Audit & Review Report for the bank in dealing with a highly sensitive employment matter and acting as legal counsel for MIB in the follow up Employment Tribunal Litigation of the matter.
  • Advised Soneva Group with their US$ 100 million debt refinancing from Aareal Bank AG for their two upmarket hotels in Maldives, Soneva Fushi & Soneva Jani.
  • Advised Constance Group with their US$ 19 million debt restructuring and additional financing from The Mauritius Commercial Bank for their two upmarket hotels in Maldives, Constance Halaveli Resort & Constance Moofushi Resort.

Hotel Acquisitions and Investments

  • Assisted Constance Group in the successful transfer of the head lease of Constance Halaveli Resort to a subsidiary company of the Constance Group following the acquisition of the resort’s head lease.
  • Advised Constance Group in successfully negotiating and finalizing the acquisition of the Constance Halaveli Resort at the head lease level.
  • Assisted in successfully negotiating for Gateway Maldives Pvt Ltd, an entire ‘sublease’ restructuring and long-term extension in respect of Bolifushi Resort (Ozen Reserve Bolifushi).

 

Other Key Assignments

  • Advised and assisted a leading global top 10 company with their proposed project in the Maldives in the information and communications sector.

Education and Background

Ayyad read law at Cardiff University, UK and further completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) from BPP University, Birmingham, UK. Ayyad is also qualified to practice before the Supreme Court of the Maldives and has been involved in various high level complex litigation matters ranging from commercial, banking and finance, real estate, contract disputes, corporate matters, employment matters, insolvency, insurance and intellectual property.
