SHC Law & Tax discusses foreign exchange and tax developments at GM Forum 2026

SHC Law & Tax contributed to the Hotelier Maldives GM Forum 2026 with a session examining the legal, tax and operational implications of foreign exchange and tax developments affecting the hospitality sector.

Junaina Ahmed (Attorney-at-Law), Dhaanish Mohamed Ameen (Attorney-at-Law) and Tholhath Rasheed (Senior Tax Consultant) presented the foreign currency conversion requirements, MMA approvals for certain domestic foreign currency payments, and TGST obligations affecting overseas tour operators and travel agents.

The session brought together regulatory guidance and commercial considerations, exploring the effects on resort cash flow, procurement, and contractual relationships. Discussions with hospitality leaders highlighted the importance of assessing foreign currency needs, reviewing arrangements with overseas partners, and preparing coordinated compliance plans.

Mr. M. Aseel Hassan , Attorney-at-Law, SHC Law & Tax, Delivers Opening Remarks at Sports Arbitration Conference

Mr. M. Aseel Hassan, Attorney-at-Law, delivered the Opening Remarks at a one-day Sports Arbitration Conference held on 11 October 2026 at Crossroads Maldives, in his capacity as Vice Chairman of the Maldives International Arbitration Centre (MIAC).

MIAC organized the conference together with the Maldives Olympic Committee and the Asian International Arbitration Centre, as an Associated Event of Asia ADR Week. The aim was to familiarise key stakeholders in the sporting sector with sports arbitration and its potential role in resolving sports-related disputes.

On 01 September 2026, SHC Law & Tax kicked off the Director’s Training Programme (DTP) with the first session highlighting the director responsibilities under the Companies Act 2023.
