Junaina is a Partner at SHC Law & Tax, specializing in Hospitality, Real Estate and Infrastructure sectors.

Her clients include international hotel operators, developers and global financial institutions.

 

Hospitality and Real Estate

She has extensive experience representing clients in leasehold, lagoon, hotel acquisitions and financing transactions in the Maldives to the value of over USD 1B. She regularly advises developers on structuring their hospitality investments.

Junaina has also advised clients on structuring and establishment of ‘strata villa’ residences programs at luxury resorts including branded residences. 

She frequently advises clients on construction and development matters with a special focus on corporate and commercial agreements in hotel projects including reclamation and construction contracts.

 

Infrastructure and Projects

Junaina regularly represents both private contractors and Government/ state-owned enterprises in contract drafting and negotiations for mega public sector investment program (PSIP) projects, including the development of airports, bridges and ports within the Maldives.

 

Capital Markets

Junaina also has extensive experience on Maldives capital markets matters. She has acted for the Maldives Islamic Bank Plc on its conversion to a public limited company and subsequent listing on the Maldives Stock Exchange. 

She has also assisted with setup and registration of REITs and closed-end funds for hospitality investments.

 

Junaina also presently serves as a Committee Member of the Law Reform and Research Committee of the Maldives Bar Council.

Awards and Recognition

Junaina is included on asiaLaw’s list of ranked legal professionals in the Maldives for sectors of Construction, and Banking and Finance.

She is also the recipient of asiaLaw’s Client Choice Awards 2024 as ‘Maldives Honorable Mention Lawyer.’

Education and Background

Junaina is a graduate of the University of Nottingham, UK.

Prior to joining SHC, she has also worked at the Prosecutor General’s Office.

She was also a local consultant on the Asian Development Bank’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Project at the Ministry of Economic Development in 2016.
