With over 16 years of experience as a practitioner, she has a diverse client base and practices commercial law, specializing in banking & financing, infrastructure and aviation.

 

Banking and Finance

She has extensive experience advising onshore and offshore banks & financial institutions in respect of major project and syndicated financing transactions in the Maldives.

 

Hospitality and Real Estate

She has advised high profile clients on a number of hotel acquisitions over the last decade, advising on transaction, due diligence and investment structuring. 

 

Aviation

She also frequently advises aircraft owners and lessees in respect of acquisitions,  finance and leasing in the aviation sector in the Maldives. 

 

Infrastructure and PSIP

She regularly advises private contractors and state-owned enterprises on mega public sector infrastructure projects in the Maldives.

 

Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

Haifa is an arbitrator listed on the Secondary Panel of Maldives International Arbitration Center. 

She is also a Member of Centre for International Arbitration (CiArb), London. 

Haifa is a seasoned litigator and has successfully represented clients on complex tax and financing disputes, setting landmark precedents at the appellate courts and Supreme Court of the Maldives.

Haifa is a ranked professional in asialaw and recognized as a Rising Star in Banking and finance, Construction practice areas in 2024.

Haifa was awarded ‘Maldives Female Lawyer of the Year’ by asialaw Awards in 2024.

Education and Background

Haifa graduated with her Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London in 2006. She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Laws (Banking and Finance) from the University of London.

Prior to joining SHC Law & Tax, Haifa served in various posts at Maldives Monetary Authority, the central bank of Maldives, over a period of 8 years, including as a Deputy Counsel at the Governors Bureau.

Haifa currently serves as the Chairperson of the Ethics Committee of the Maldives Bar Council.
