On 12 November 2025, SHC Law & Tax attended the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Women & Democracy as one of the co-sponsors. The event marked a decade of unwavering commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, strengthening democratic values, and fostering civic engagement. Supporting this important cause reflects the firm’s enduring dedication to diversity and inclusion, and its commitment to building a more equitable and participatory society.

On 14 December 2025, SHC Law & Tax attended the GM Forum held in Kurumba Maldives along with prominent industry leaders.

On 9 October 2025, SHC Law & Tax signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ghiyasuddin International School to support its newly launched Work Experience Program. Ms. Junaina Ahmed, Partner at SHC, signed the MOU on behalf of the firm and delivered brief remarks emphasizing the importance of cultivating future professionals.

This initiative reflects SHC’s commitment to community engagement and corporate social responsibility. By participating in the program, SHC will offer students meaningful exposure to the legal field, helping them develop practical skills and gain valuable professional insight.

On 23 August 2025, Mr M Aseel Hassan moderated the roundtable discussion on Regulating AI in ADR: Who Writes the Rules?” at the Asia ADR Summit 2025 in Nanning, China

On 19 August 2025, SHC Law & Tax kicks off the Director’s Training Programme (DTP) with the first session highlighting the director responsibilities under the Companies Act 2023.

The session was facilitated by Ms Mizfa Saeed, Attorney-at-Law and Ms Raisham Zareer, Attorney-at-Law.

Bank of Maldives (BML) Islamic has announced its first fully funded Shari’ah – compliant corporate financing facility to support the development of a luxury resort at Kasanfaru Lagoon in Kaafu Atoll, marking a major milestone in the expansion of Islamic finance in the country.

The 5 – star, 118 room resort is being developed by Sentoric Island Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between Alia Group, a diversified business leader in the Maldives, and the globally recognised hospitality brand Atmosphere Core, which currently operates 9 resorts in the Maldives.

“This is a significant step forward for Islamic finance in the Maldives” said Mohamed Shareef, CEO and Managing Director of Bank of Maldives. “Not only is this the first resort project financed under BML Islamic, but this is the first fully funded Shari’ah compliant resort financing in the country and it is a clear demonstration of the growing demand for Islamic financing instruments for the corporate sector.”

SHC Law & Tax acted as lead counsel to Aareal Bank AG in the successful refinancing of Alila Kothaifaru Maldives, a five – star luxury resort located in Raa Atoll, Republic of Maldives managed by the Alila brand under the Hyatt portfolio.

The transaction consisted of comprehensive refinancing of existing facilities and restructuring of resort’s financing arrangements, whereby we provided full legal support to Aareal Bank AG in respect of structuring advice, drafting and negotiation of facility and security documentation, and local law compliance in respect of securities.

The SHC team was led by Mr Shuaib M Shah, Dhaanish M Ameen, and Juni Latheef. This transaction was completed in March 2025.
