Joined Firm: 2001
Partner Since: 2006

Year of qualification (The Bar of Maldives): 2005

Fizan has maintained a successful private practice in commercial law with us for the past 13 years, and is a full-time Partner Lawyer at this firm since 2006. He is well known within the legal profession as a prominent commercial attorney, and his clientele includes some of the leading resorts and hotels, international banks, investment firms, public and private companies, and high net-worth individuals. During the past 10 years, he has successfully closed many key international financing transactions in the Maldives for banks and resort/hotel developers, resort hotel acquisitions and investments for foreign investors, and infrastructure development projects and project finance for the Government and public companies, amongst others. In recognition for his achievements, Fizan was named by IFLR as a ‘leading lawyer’ in the Maldives in 2013.

In addition to the expertise he has in the tourism & hotel industry and the banking sector, Fizan has extensive hands-on experience in advising and assisting clients on investment structuring, real estate and property dealings, foreign investments and acquisitions, resort/hotel management and operations, corporate law, portfolio re-structuring, civil works and building contracts, construction finance, employment disputes (specifically in the tourism industry), and commercial litigation and dispute resolution. He also has considerable expertise in pensions and pensions-related investments – a new and fast-growing area in the Maldives – and the capital markets.

Although his practice is primarily focused on advising and assisting clients in the above areas, Fizan has from time to time successfully acted as lead counsel in few landmark cases at the Supreme Court and High Court, in some major hotel investment disputes and resort mortgage foreclosures.

Fizan graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree with Honours from Bond University, Australia, and was amongst the top graduates from his batch. He is a senior member of the Maldivian Bar, and an Advocate of the Maldives Supreme Court and the Maldives High Court.
