Dheena graduated in Law from the University of Birmingham in 1995 and was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1998. Since then she has obtained a Masters degree in Banking and Finance Law from the University of London.
She has worked on a number of important local and international projects and her current practice draws upon her experience in banking and finance, foreign investment, corporate, commercial and company law as well as in the areas of intellectual property and telecommunications. She has in recent years been instructed by corporate and individual clients, (both local and foreign) in matters involving foreign investments, telecommunications, employment and tourism industry related disputes.
Dheena has served as a member of the Law Commission of the Maldives and has also been a lecturer in criminal law at the Faculty of Sharia and Law of the Maldives College of Higher Education. Her assignments with the government include a posting with the Ministry of Defence and National Security as Legal Officer (1999-2004), with the Maldives Police Service as Senior Legal Officer (2005-2005) and with the Ministry of Defence and National Security as Deputy Director General (2005-2008). She has also worked for the Special Majlis (Constitutional Assembly) as a member of the Drafting Panel which drafted the Constitution of the Maldives which was enacted in 2008.
Dheena has a practicing license to appear before the Supreme Court of the Republic of Maldives.
